You gain those you serve. Want to gain children? Serve the needs of kids and families not just the needs of Adults. I don't understand why churches don't understand that there are rewards for serving and blessing children. Matthew 10:42 tells us: "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward." If there is a reward for giving a cup of water, imagine the rewards for meeting the rest of their needs.
One of my favorite preachers is Tommy Barnett. My favorite Bro.Tommy quote is ”Every great place to live needs a great church.” He says you become a great church by finding a need and meet it. Find a hurt and heal it! The same is true in reaching children. Every great city needs a church with a great children’s ministry. If you want to gain the children of your city serve them better than any other church or ministry. Find the needs in your city no one is addressing. Meet those needs, find the hurts of today's kids and heal them. You gain those you serve. What areas of your ministry do you need to serve more? What areas do you need to serve differently? What can you do to serve children better?
